ACCESS West Africa Regional Workshop

  • The Alliance of Civil Society Organizations for Clean Energy Access (ACCESS), supported by the Wallace Fund, is organizing a two-day start-up workshop, in Accra, Ghana to bring together ACCESS members from the West Africa region to share information on energy access and begin deliberating on the advocacy opportunities to better the energy scenario for the poor and vulnerable in their various countries in West Africa. This workshop is the first of its kind for the ACCESS Coalition in West Africa. It will be held at the Erata Hotel, Accra from the 6th – 7th December 2017. The workshop seeks to be a first step in the direction of streamlining efforts and strengthening CSO engagement and advocacy for sustainable energy access to address energy poverty in West Africa. The workshop will bring together civil society representatives and key stakeholders from the region’s energy access context on the following objectives:
  • Awareness: To share information among CSOs about key energy access initiatives and opportunities and the role of ACCESS
  • Stakeholder Mapping: To map the key institutions and their activities on energy access in West Africa and to identify specific institutions that ACCESS and partners seek to influence
  • Initial ideation on Advocacy strategy: To determine points of intervention for ACCESS towards key regional stakeholders, and next steps for country or regional partners and representatives

The Key outputs of the workshop are:

  • Map of stakeholders and programmes in West Africa on energy access
  • Institutions/ Individuals/ programmes to be influenced by ACCESS membership base
  • Initial ideas/ thoughts on advocacy strategy; Recommendations for those to be influenced
  • Action points/ next steps on Advocacy strategy and country level actions

GrassRootsAfrica will be participating in the workshop as a member and the Executive Director will deliver a presentation on SDG 7- Sustainable Energy Access and the Role of CSOs.
